Runtime governance for multi-agent systems

Govern what agents do, not just what they did.

QuadRails observes every agent action and runs it on four pillars: security and policies, evals, cost and performance. Underneath them, OXP traces and explains every decision, so you can prove each control works.

Why QuadRails

Agents are already acting. Most of them answer to no one.

  • Agents call tools nobody approved.

Most frameworks let any agent call any tool. There is no clearance, no gate and no record of why it was allowed.

  • You find out after the damage is done.

Dashboards show what happened. They don't stop what shouldn't happen, and they can't tell you whether a guardrail would have caught it.

  • Governance lives in documents, not in the runtime.

Policies are written for reviewers. Engineering has no way to enforce them on every agent, in every team, at every step.

The platform

Four rails, standing on what you can see.

Each rail is a set of controls with an owner, a test and a reason to change it. All four sit on one observability foundation, because a guardrail you can't trace is a guardrail you can't trust.

Security & Policies

Rules agents can't talk their way past, checked before every action.

  • Input, output and retrieval rails
  • QASA authorizes every tool call
  • Policy over policy at load time

Evals

Proof that an agent is good enough to ship, and stays that way.

  • Golden sets and release gates
  • Groundedness and drift detection
  • Judge models tested against people

Cost

Budgets enforced before the model runs, not discovered on the invoice.

  • Budgets by team, app and agent
  • Cheaper model or block when short
  • Cost per task, not per token

Performance

Controls that stay fast enough to leave on in production.

  • Latency budgets per risk tier
  • Deterministic checks first
  • Tripwires on runaway loops

Observability is the foundation.

OXP, the Observability and Explainability Platform, traces every action, tool call and verdict, scores each session and explains every decision.

Test scenarios

Test before you trust.

Run your multi-agent system against the same scenario twice, with guardrails off in an isolated sandbox and on in a protected run. Compare the outcome, the trace and the cost.

Unapproved tool call

User asks for an account summary. The agent proposes delete_records.

BLOCK

Guardrails off (sandbox)

Tool executes. 412 synthetic records removed.

No record of why the call was allowed.

Guardrails on

Blocked before the backend. Zero calls made.

Reason: tool not in the agent's manifest for this task.

0 msintent account.summary · agent ops-assist-04
212 mstool_call.proposed delete_records(scope=all)
226 mspolicy tool-allowlist.v7 → BLOCK tool_not_selected_by_llm

How it works

One pipeline at every boundary.

QuadRails intercepts execution before a tool fires, after a model responds and whenever one agent hands work to another. Deterministic rules decide first; a model judge can only add restrictions.

  1. Agent acts

A prompt, plan, tool call or hand-off to another agent.

  2. Intercept

A QASA sidecar beside the agent catches it.

  3. Evaluate

Identity, scope, budget and intent are checked.

  4. Verdict

Allow, block, modify, escalate or throttle.

  5. Enforce

Only approved tools appear in the agent's token.

  6. Record

The decision and its evidence land in OXP.

Security coverage

Designed against all ten OWASP agentic risks.

Every risk has a primary control, and most have two. No single guardrail is enough on its own.
